What happened was that schools made a hasty exit, which itself actually caused the conference to collapse. That leaves some of these institutions in strange places. The Oregon Ducks, for example, have a long way to go to travel for Big Ten road games, unless they’re going to Washington.

There were two members of the Pitino family involved in this year’s NCAA Tournament. One of them was, of course, Rick Pitino, who complained loudly last year when his St. John’s Red Storm was left out of the Big Dance. This year his team made it as a #2 seed, but suffered an upset at the hands of John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday. That leaves one Pitino still standing. But for how long.

The Washington Commanders, who need defensive help, met them in the conference title game last season and made two important offensive acquisitions in the trade market, to support their investment in quarterback Jayden Daniels. Still, there’s no way you can look at this division and favor anyone but the Philadelphia Eagles, who are strongest from top to bottom. Confidence does not surround the Dallas Cowboys.

Customers at the top online sportsbooks may have noticed, the Boston Red Sox came into spring training with a lot of storylines. The one that got the most attention revolved around third baseman Rafael Devers. The Sox had an opportunity to acquire Alex Bregman, a Gold Glove third sacker with power, who had most recently been with Houston. They went ahead and signed Bregman, perhaps with the expectation that they could get Devers to move to the DH spot. But Devers refused to do that.
