New York’s governor Kathy Hochul has nixed a bill that would have expedited the timeline for the awarding of downstate casino licenses, prompting angry responses. Hochul vetoed bill S9673A a week after receiving it which has ruffled the feathers of industry stakeholders. Currently, there are 11 proposed projects in and around New York City that are jostling for one of the 3 coveted licenses up for grabs. The original deadline for applications to be submitted was set for 31 August 2024.

The specter of a fresh online casino bill being submitted in Wyoming is reportedly gathering momentum. Wyoming Rep. Robert Davis insists he is ready to file for online casino legislation following the results of a positive study carried out by Spectrum Gaming. The study made some financial projections where online casino revenues would grow from $98 million to $138 million in year 1, then $162 million to $199 million by year 5.

More New York residents are using their mobile phones to place sports wagers. According to the latest figures revealed by the New York Gaming Commission (NYGC) for October, the Big Apple enjoyed a banner month for mobile spending, with a record $2.32 billion laid out by bettors on mobile platforms. The October figure surpassed September’s return by 15.4%, surging past the now-previous record of $2.12 billion by 9.4%, which was set in November 2023.

Michigan is in buoyant mood on the back of a superb month for iGaming revenues. According to the latest figures published by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), iGaming contributed $202.6 million in revenue in September. Combined with online betting, total gaming revenues hit $261 million in the Wolverine State. Reflected as gross receipts, the figure is 21.4% higher than last year and it climbed more than 16% compared to August of this year.
