MEQUON — With plans to modernize the Christine Nuernberg Hall space — where the Mequon Common Council and other boards meet — the city of Mequon will suspend its live meeting broadcasts of those meetings from April 16 to Sept. 30. The renovations, which were approved by the Common Council last week, include updates to audio and video equipment to improve public meeting functionality and accessibility.

MEQUON — The Mequon Police Department Tuesday welcomed a new four-legged member to its K-9 unit, Bogey. The 18-month-old purebred German Shepherd was imported from Germany and is currently settling into his new role as a police canine, according to the department. He will fill the position previously held by K-9 Djuke, who died in January after serving for more than four faithful years on the force.

MEQUON — "What can I do for you?" is one of many sayings Nina Look of the Jonathan Clark House will miss hearing from her longtime friend Jean Hill, who was also the museum’s and many other organizations’ volunteer photographer. "I first met her when she was branch manager of the Ozaukee Bank in Thiensville," Look recalled. "... (She) enabled us to archive our history through photographs."That simple question sums up the type of person Hill was. She died on March 16 at the age of 81.

MEQUON — A 77-page document outlining Mequon’s plans in developing and maintaining public parks and outdoor recreation facilities was approved earlier this month. Common Council members unanimously voted to adopt the city’s Comprehensive Park, Recreation and Open Space Plan that serves as a 15- to 20-year planning document for future replacement and improvement considerations within the parks.

MEQUON — The Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation is donating $16,000 for the Police Department’s next K-9. The funds, which were donated by an anonymous Mequon citizen to the Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation, will enable the department to acquire a new K-9 and also cover the first year of training and certification, according to the city. It was made following the recent death of K-9 Djuke, who served for more than four years on the force.

MEQUON — The city of Mequon’s original Ace Hardware location at 11001 N. Port Washington Road began the demolition process Tuesday. The store, which first opened up shop in 1981, still remains present in the community after it relocated up the road last year and filled over half of the former Pick ’n Save at 11300 N. Port Washington Road that had been vacant for more than a decade. The other half will now be occupied by Planet Fitness.
