A decade ago, torrential rains flooded Honiara, the capital of Solomon Islands, overwhelming its decrepit water treatment system. Furthermore, Penrose Palmer, a Land Acquisition Officer who falsified documents for land acquired for mining on Rennell Island in 2015 was identified as the root cause of the West Rennell “Mess.” He was found guilty of office corruption and only fined $600(US$72).
