    The Liberal Party has suffered back-to-back drubbings at the federal level, while opposition parties in Victoria and Western Australia endured wipeouts at three consecutive state election. Meanwhile Tasmanian Labor will have lost five times in a row if July goes badly for them. At the territory level, the Liberals haven’t held government in the Australian Capital Territory for just shy of a quarter of a century, while last year in the NT Labor was obliterated by the Country Liberal Party.

The party, a sectional interest within a sectional interest, has never strayed far from the policy priorities of mining magnate Gina Rinehart, a woman who insists on jamming money into the Coalition’s coffers no matter how embarrassing the circumstances.

    Iran and Israel have spent the past three days trading missile strikes after Israel attacked some of Iran’s key nuclear facilities and assassinated Iranian leadership figures and nuclear scientists. Up to 400 Iranians have been killed, as have at least 10 Israelis.
