This could be one of the tightest, most physically confrontational semi-finals in the Premiership's history. Two sides who love the brutal, brutish side of the sport, going hammer and tongs in front of around 20,000 fans at Mattioli Woods Welford Road. It will be a fabulous advert for the league. Somewhat ironically, given the heavy-duty nature of both teams, it could be the craftsmanship of George Ford - the form No 10 in England, and perhaps, further afield - which is the difference.

A capacity to roll with the punches is crucial at senior level, particularly in a pivotal position. Donoghue's story has its quirks. Born in Salisbury, he took up rugby union at Abingdon RFC before joining Millfield School for Year 4. There were training camps with Somerset and Bath but, thanks to the roots of his mother, who was born in Enniskillen and lived on Strangford Lough in Co Down, further honours came through the Irish Exiles age-group programme.

"Before, chasers had to work a bit harder to get around the escort while keeping their eye on the ball and then getting up," Goode adds. "The kick had to be good and the chase was something you had to really refine to make it a skill. Now, it does seem a bit too easy to get up and spoil with one arm. I'd say that it encourages a more kick-focused game."Andy Farrell's cohort of back-three players in the British and Irish Lions squad leaves little doubt over the importance of aerial prowess.

It is a case of five out of three in today's final round of the regular Premiership season. Leicester, Sale, Bristol, Gloucester and Saracens will all be looking over their shoulders this afternoon knowing that one slip up could see their hopes of joining table-toppers Bath in the play-offs kicked into touch. The five could all still finish anywhere from second to sixth with just five points separating them after 17 matches.

Saracens stalwart is calling time on record-breaking career almost two decades after graduating from our school team to professional gameThe sun is shining over StoneX Stadium but Saracens need favours - from a trio of testy rivals in Exeter Chiefs, Harlequins and Northampton Saints - to keep their season alive. Barring a victory over Bath as well as a kind combination of results elsewhere on Saturday, they will be saying goodbye to their greatest ever player.
