This return to the waves was synonymous with joy but also tears for the French team, which lined up two surfers in the round of 16 and two in the quarter-finals. It was joy for Johanne Defay and Kauli Vaast – who qualified for the semi-finals – and tears for Vahiné Fierro and Joan Duru.

Après quelques jours d’arrêt, compte tenu des conditions météorologiques, les surfeurs olympiques ont renoué avec la compétition à Teahupoo, jeudi 1er août. Ce retour sur la vague a été synonyme de joie mais aussi de larmes pour l’équipe de France, qui alignait deux surfeuses en huitièmes de finale et deux surfeurs en quarts de finale. La joie est pour Johanne Defay et Kauli Vaast – qualifiés pour les demi-finales –, les larmes pour Vahiné Fierro et Joan Duru.

While Joan Duru and Vahine Fierro set themselves apart from the competition and went straight on to the round of 16, the mana was not so good for Kauli Vaast and Johanne Defay, who had to go through round 2 on Sunday, July 28.

Behind the coral reef, under the watchful eye of dozens of the organization's boats, the 48 Olympic athletes tested themselves in training sessions between Sunday 21, and Thursday, July 25. Sitting on their boards, looking out to sea, the world's best surfers waited for the wave on which they will try to win a medal. The competition began on Saturday, July 27.
