Research released today by ASB, supported by Talbot Mills Research, shows Kiwi businesses see US tariffs as more impactful than Covid-19 or the Global Financial Crisis. More than 300 business leaders, including CEOs and founders, contributed to the study, giving their insights on President Trump’s recently announced trade policies. Two-thirds (67%) of businesses are concerned about the impact of proposed US tariffs in the next 12 months, with nearly 80% of exporters concerned.

Anna Kelland from Constellation Brands has been named the 2025 Marlborough Young Viticulturist of the Year – the second consecutive year that she has taken home the title. Laura Hammond from Babich came in second, and Harry Watson from Berakah Vineyard Management was third. Other awards went to Isaac Langley from Pecchenino Viticulture, who took out the trellising trophy; and Eilish Herrick from Jeremy Walsh Viticulture, who was awarded the Professional Reputation Award.

This year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition entries showcased global excellence across four continents, with standout spirits in categories including whisk(e)y, gin, brandy, agave, vodka, liqueurs, aperitifs and digestifs. Just 3% achieved Gold Outstanding, and 12% were awarded Gold – including seven spirits from New Zealand. Agave Spirits was awarded a Gold Medal and 98 points for its ready-to-serve cocktail, Besos Margarita Habanero, in the Alternative Drinks category.
