The last time Oasis played Wembley Stadium, in 2009, a standing ticket cost exactly £44.04. For their return next summer, the same ticket was priced at £150. Vastly more than the old ticket price which, when adjusted for inflation, would cost £68. Not only that, but some fans were charged hundreds of pounds more than the face value, after so-called “dynamic pricing” boosted the cost in response to high demand. But Oasis aren’t alone.

Shell boss got £8m pay package in first year

Shell's new boss received a pay package of almost £8m in his first year in the role, the energy giant has revealed. Detail of the pay emerged as Shell also announced it was watering down one of its climate pledges. Wael Sawan was paid a total of £7.94m, including bonuses, although that was below the £9.7m received by his predecessor, Ben van Beurden, in 2022. The size of the pay package came under fire from pressure groups.
Metro Bank to end seven-day trading across all branches and cuts jobs

Metro Bank is to end seven-day trading in all its branches and cut about 1,000 jobs after reporting huge losses. From 29 March, all 76 branches will close on Sundays and Bank Holidays, with more than half of them closing on Saturdays as well. The lender also said it would cut 22% of its workforce by mid-April as part of a huge cost-cutting exercise. The struggling High Street bank began a review of operations last autumn in an effort to save about £50m a year.
Record Dry January saved the average person £118

A record one in five drinkers gave up alcohol for Dry January, a British Beer and Pub Association survey suggests. Charity Alcohol Change UK said those using its app to track a month of not drinking saved on average £118. But pubs have reported a drop in drinks sales, while the prices of no and low-alcohol drinks are rising faster than their boozy counterparts. Jasmine Hoole tried Dry January for the first time and said it boosted her bank balance as well as her energy levels.

Over the last year there has been a 25% increase in the number of new loans from pawnbrokers, according to figures from the Financial Conduct Authority. Debt Charity StepChange said the data "speaks to the scale of the cost-of-living crisis as people get desperate".
