PORT LAVACA — The act of playing the ukulele is an act of spreading positivity for Barbara Conitz. Conitz, former school teacher and coach, has spent the last 60 years living in Port Lavaca. She teaches children and adults how to play the ukulele. She also has organized her own band, The Spirit Strings. She got involved in teaching ukulele back in 2016 after playing in a ukulele band at First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca.

After four years of trials and tribulations, the Victoria West class of 2024 was able to bookmark the end of their high school journey. Hundreds of graduates walked the stage to receive their diplomas at West’s graduation ceremony Friday evening at Memorial Stadium. Friends and family members of the graduates packed both the home and away sections at the stadium. Graduates adjusted their gap and gowns while awaiting their latest milestone at the VISD District Events Center.
