On Friday, Apr. 5 in an email addressed to the USF community, university administration announced the discontinuation of the Dons men’s and women’s tennis programs, effective at the end of this season, on Apr. 27. The letter was sent by both Vice President of Business and Finance Charlie Cross and Athletic Director Larry Williams.

Out of all the weeks to say “I hate Mondays,” this is not the one! On Monday, Apr. 8, a total solar eclipse graced North America’s sky, the first since 2017. People across the continent took to the streets with protective glasses in hand to catch a glimpse of the shining phenomenon. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) stated, “A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun.

The USF men’s basketball team’s postseason run ended on Mar. 20, after a 73-72 overtime loss to the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). The Dons traveled to Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, OH to take on the Bearcats. Both teams went back and forth with Cincinnati going into halftime with a narrow one-point lead.

Hidden on the bottom floor of Koret Health & Recreation Center lies a combative haven where the USF Boxing Club has met since its creation in 1997. The boxing gym is tucked away, small, and full of character. The walls are decorated with old photos from “fight nights” in past years, many against local rivals, such as Santa Clara University.

The National Football League (NFL) is no stranger to issues with inclusion. In a Black former head coach sued the league, claiming it was “rife with racism,” particularly in their hiring practices for head coaches. The NFL is ancient in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts and needs to better tailor their initiatives to align with modern inclusion practices. In the NFL’s 104-year history, only 25 out of 524 head coaches have been Black.

SFAC: The San Francisco Athletic Club is a popular sports bar on the corner of Divisadero and Bush street in Lower Pacific Heights. The Athletic Club has both an indoor and outdoor space with multiple TV screens to view the game. If you would like to watch the game at the Athletic Club, you must pay a $20 cover charge and plan on arriving early to ensure you get a good spot. Spots are served on a first come, first serve basis.

Julian Sorapuru ’22, arrived at USF without previous journalistic experience or a clear idea of what he wanted as a career. But after writing his first story for the Foghorn, a women’s soccer game recap, Sorapuru said he thought the Foghorn was the “coolest thing ever.” After working as a general assignment reporter and news editor, Sorapuru became editor-in-chief as a second semester junior, becoming the first Black male to hold this position at the Foghorn.

On Nov. 11, for the second time in three years, the USF Triathlon team graced the podium at the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championship. The Dons finished third overall with a total of 933 points, behind Queens University of Charlotte and Arizona State University. The Dons competed against 13 other schools at their competition in Tempe, Arizona.

The Dons Men’s Basketball Team opened up the 2023-24 season on Nov. 6, with a 128-59 win over Bethesda University. The Dons came out the gates firing, commanding a 50-point lead after one half of play. The Dons had an electric first half, shooting 13 for 20 from three, and 73% from the field. Shining in their debuts were newcomers, Johnathan Mogbo and Mike Sharavajts. Mogbo finished with 17 points in his first game on the Hilltop.
