ARAB, Ala. (WAFF) - Crowds of people showed out to support the Arab Junior High School Beta Club on Saturday afternoon. The club hosted a chili cookoff to raise money for the organization to attend local and national conventions. One familiar face was in attendance as the guest of honor and that was 48 First Alert Meteorologist Chelsea Aaron. Along with beta students raising money, several local chefs brought their chili to see who would take the crown.

Today has been another sunny and nice day with high temperatures staying below average in the mid and upper 80s. With humidity levels remaining much lower, it feels quite comfortable for any of your outdoor plans! Expect mostly clear skies and quiet weather conditions through the evening hours. It will be a great night to catch a glimpse of the Perseid Meteor Shower again with overnight lows staying fairly cool in the low and mid 60s.

Today has been another nice day to be outdoors with plenty of sunshine and high temperatures reaching the low to mid 90s. With winds still out of the north, humidity levels have stayed more manageable. Expect an isolated shower or stray storm mainly for areas to the east, but most locations will remain dry through the evening hours. Skies will be mostly clear overnight with overnight lows falling into the low and mid 70s.

A less humid airmass will be settling in over the Tennessee Valley for your weekend behind yesterday’s cold front. This frontal boundary has also helped clear the Saharan Dust that brought poor air quality recently as well. Skies will be mostly sunny with a few passing clouds into the afternoon with high temperatures trending seasonably hot in the upper 80s to lower 90s. There is a very small chance of seeing a pop-up shower or two developing this afternoon for areas along and east of I-65.

Today is a 48 FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY for the combination of widespread excessive rainfall and strong thunderstorms. Gusty winds and dangerous lightning can be expected in addition to the torrential downpours, so please make sure you are staying weather alert. High temperatures will trend well below normal in the upper 70s and low 80s with localized flooding possible by the afternoon. Expect showers and storms to gradually decrease in both coverage and intensity through the late evening hours.
