The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Austin area until 9 p.m.The watch includes Travis, Williamson, Bastrop, Burnet and Lee counties. The main threats are lightning, wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail up to the size of tennis balls. A severe thunderstorm watch means storms are capable of forming, and you should be prepared to take action if it progresses into a warning.

Austin's eclectic community festival is back at Pease Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to dusk. The annual birthday party in honor of the sad, lovable Winnie-the-Pooh character is celebrating its own milestone: 60 years of music, extravagant costumes and keeping Austin weird. Though it's now a staple of Pease Park, Eeyore's Birthday originated at Eastwoods Park near UT Austin in 1964 as an end-of-year celebration for a university English class.

One night a week, a gay dance club in downtown Austin transforms into a lecture hall. There’s still flashing lights. Bone-shaking bass. Drinks flowing from the bar. Austin ISD is considering whether to close Dobie Middle School in Northeast Austin because of low accountability ratings from the state, the district's superintendent said Friday. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) gives school districts and campuses grades largely based on student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the I-35 corridor from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. The warning is for "critical fire weather conditions" caused by low humidity and strong winds. The warning includes Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bexar and Comal counties. Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph, and temperatures will be in the upper 80s to low 90s, according to NWS.
