Mobility Ministries receives Rotary donation

DEMOTTE — Mobility Ministries,Inc., a division of Mobility Worldwide, is located on 550 W, across from the Kankakee Valley Intermediate School. The ministry builds mobility carts for disabled adults in Malawi, one of the continent of Africa’s poorest country. The carts are built by volunteers and many of the parts are cut, welded, painted, padded and put together in the DeMotte location. Each cart costs about $400 to build.

MONTICELLO - Thursday evening was the 12th annual Disability Awareness Banner Art Show Awards Ceremony held at the Twin Lakes High School auxiliary gym. Awards were given to the more than 200 entries into the art contest by Twin Lakes students and artists from disability service organizations including Lirio Resources and the White County Council on Aging. ACA Coordinator Diane Bunnell welcomed the artists and their families to the program.

Fire Department. DeYoung gave an overview of the organization’s work in providing opportunities for growth and retention in the county. She grew up in Brook, and her parents owned and operated a gas station there for many years.

County renews Make My Move contract, Monticello tables same

MONTICELLO — In two separate meetings, the White County Commissioners renewed the Make My Move contract while the Monticello City Council tabled a decision to renew its contract. Make My Move is an incentive program through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) to bring remote workers to communities in Indiana. Last year, the county and city both agreed to the proposed incentive program brought to them by the county’s economic development office.

MONTICELLO — The annual Transition and Service Fair and Wheelchair Basketball Tournament were held at the Twin Lakes High School Auxiliary gym Thursday evening with services to assist those with disabilities lining a hallway outside the gym prior to and during the basketball games so guests could browse the informational booths in between games and at halftime.
Concerned neighbors protest propose town home development

MONTICELLO — A group of Monticello residents came to the White County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday morning and the Monticello City Council Monday evening to protest a proposed development of town homes on the site where the White County Hospital once stood. Neighbors surrounding the green space, which is owned by the county, do not want rental properties built there.
