The two-time medalist in the men’s 87 kg event at the World Taekwondo Championships and two-time medalist, including gold, in his event at the European Taekwondo Championships beat Ann in round two. Ann is the first Gambian taekwondo athlete to qualify to the Olympic Games. The 23-year-old secured his qualification as one of 16 Africans who secured a Paris 2024 quota spots at the2024 African Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament in Dakar.

Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye has ended the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by registering her season's best in the Women 200m semi-finals with a timing of 22.66 seconds. The track queen finished 4th position in her heat 3 of the semi-finals run on Monday at Stade de France. Hours after missing a place in the Women 100m final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Saturday, Bass Bittaye, on Sunday put her disappointment behind her by securing a spot in the semi-finals of the Women 200m semi-finals.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) member was accompanied by some members of the GNOC Board. Madame Allen used the occasion to congratulate the athletes as well as encourage those yet to perform. She also handed out Olympic Participation Pins to the athletes that were present. The president reconfirmed her committee's continued support to athletes’ development and urged National Associations to plan ahead of events and work closely with the NOC.

The country’s track queen will compete in the Women 200m semi-finals later today, Monday, and hope to secure her place in the finals to be held tomorrow, Tuesday. The 29-year-old finished 3rd position in the Women 100m semi-finals on Saturday with a timing of 11.10 seconds. The finish was not enough to earn her a place in the finals.
