It’s both fascinating and a little invasive feeling to look through what’s on the auction block in “The David Lynch Collection,” featuring hundreds of items once owned by the late, great cinematic genius. There are tons of books, multiple espresso makers (obviously), furniture, cameras and other filmmaking equipment, musical instruments, woodworking tools, framed artwork, and household items like mugs and dishes.

Hollywood is no stranger to doing damage control when a creative person does or is accused of something so distressing it affects the projects they’re associated with. Think Ezra Miller, Jonathan Majors, or Neil Gaiman—the latter being a particularly notable case because when he was first hit with sexual abuse allegations, which he has denied, he was involved with multiple TV series. That includes two much-loved titles: Good Omens on Prime Video and The Sandman on Netflix.

Three seasons—and then an abrupt end. It’s a routine genre fans are unfortunately familiar with. There are still people out there (me included) holding out hope for fourth seasons of The Orville and Hannibal. The latest three-season casualty is Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time. Sometimes a miracle happens and another platform steps in; remember when Lucifer made three seasons at Fox, then got resurrected for three more at Netflix?

There was a long gap between seasons, and quite a few high-stakes plot threads to keep track of. The Handmaid’s Tale ended its run this week with an episode titled “The Handmaid’s Tale,” bringing June (Elisabeth Moss) full circle while also allowing Hulu to leave the door wide open for The Testaments, the upcoming series based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 sequel to her 1985 novel. Emotional punctuation took priority over narrative closure, which felt like the best and only choice.
