Two Jackson Public Schools employees are on administrative leave after the school district say an internal audit found unauthorized and improper disbursements of funds totaling around $221,000. JPS says they took swift action and launched an investigation, placed the employees on leave, and implemented immediate safeguards to prevent further unauthorized actions. The district's administration also self-reported the matter to the Office of the State Auditor for further review and guidance.

Former Canton mayoral candidate Comelia Walker filed an appeal Monday with the Supreme Court of Mississippi against a May 31 ruling. Walker challenged her election loss to Democratic nominee Tim Scott Taylor in the April 22 primary, which she lost by 43 votes.

A state budget has been passed after a two-day special session. Gov. Tate Reeves took to social media, thanking lawmakers for passing the $7 billion budget, but there's still unfinished business. The governor said the House and Senate worked diligently to find an agreement that met his specific criteria. He said it passed, but in a few instances where final decisions were made that didn't meet those criteria, he will use constitutional authority to address them.

Country music star Randy Travis and his wife Mary are investing in the city of Jackson.The Travises are planning a development at the old MetroCenter Mall off Highway 80. In a statement from Cory Custer, the deputy chief of Staff for Gov. Tate Reeves' office, "The Travises have made a large commercial real estate purchase in the city of Jackson. Governor Reeves and MDA consulted with them on the various ways the state of Mississippi could potentially support the economic development project.

The Vicksburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that sent one person to the hospital during a Cinco de Mayo celebration Monday night. According to Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones, an altercation broke out in the restroom at Superior Crab around 7 p.m. between three women. One of the women shot another in the lower part of her body. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
