SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Brandon Hillaker has found a purpose for his pain. “It feels really good to inspire, and give people hope,” Hillaker said. In late July, the Delta College student will embark on the inaugural Tri for Hope: a 400 mile journey from Hell, Michigan to Paradise. It’s all in an effort money and awareness for the Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network. “In 2013, I acted on my thoughts of suicide,” Hillaker said.
Flint rewards students in Peer Mediation Program to celebrate youth financial empowerment

FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) - With April being Financial Literacy Month, Flint is investing in its youth. The City of Flint’s Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative honored students in the Peer Mediation Program with stipend checks. The gesture not only celebrated the students’ commitment and contributions to a program that promotes conflict resolution in schools, but it was also an opportunity to teach the Flint youth financial literacy.

Some of the Bronx Bombers are using this altered bat design, courtesy of Aaron Leanhardt, a former University of Michigan physicist. Leanhardt spoke about the hottest new trend in baseball, and one of his former U of M colleagues spoke to TV5’s Chet Davis about the science behind it.
