McCoy’s last stand as host of CMAOntario awards

After more than a decade of hosting the CMAOntario Awards, country star Jason McCoy will pass the reigns to another prominent figure of what he calls a growing country music scene. The award show is part of a four-day festival that started Thursday and is packed with performances, workshops and a post-awards party. On Sunday, June 1, the awards show will close the festival at The Music Hall on Hamilton’s Main Street West.

Here’s what you can get up to this weekend: Ghost Walks There are still spots open for a Ghost Walk in Dundas on Saturday evening. Attendees will learn about ghosts, murders and mobsters in Dundas’s history. Tickets are $15 for adults or $13.50 for children 13 years old and younger. The tour will happen at Grafton Square at 2 King St. W.
Hamilton and Burlington Hudson’s Bay stores to close Sunday

Hudson’s Bay stores in Hamilton’s Lime Ridge Mall and Burlington’s Mapleview Centre will officially close on Sunday. The closures come as the decades-old retailer finalizes its liquidation period, which saw sales as high as 80 per cent off. All Bay stores will close on June 1. On Sunday, the company will lay off 8,340 employees or 89 per cent of its workforce, The Star reported on Tuesday. Exactly two weeks later, another 899 employees will lose their jobs.
Diabetes Canada holding spring clothing drive in Hamilton

Damage to a home found trashed after a year-long eviction battle will not be covered under the owner’s insurance. Verica Grgic reclaimed her east Hamilton home in March 2025 after spending more than a year before the Landlord and Tenant Board trying to evict her ground-floor tenant. The home had been destroyed from dog feces and urine embedded into the floorboards, mould and a flood caused by the removal of a pipe from under the bathroom sink, Grgic said.

Dual hotel to break ground in McMaster Innovation Park

The construction phase of a long-awaited hotel in Hamilton’s McMaster Innovation Park will begin this summer. Sigma Group and Kothari Group will develop the “dual-branded” property — Hyatt Place and Hyatt House. Both brands fall under the Hyatt Hotels Corporation. The two hotels will be housed in one building but serve different purposes. Hyatt Place will feature 78 traditional rooms for work and leisure, while Hyatt House will have 84 suite-style rooms equipped with kitchens for longer stays.
Hamilton Motown tribute to support St. Matt’s housing project

A Motown tribute is coming to a Hamilton performing arts centre next week. On Thursday, May 29, Motown Mania will bring performances of hits by stars such as Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Temptations and the Jackson 5 to the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre at Mohawk College. The Holk Family event’s proceeds will go to non-profit St. Matt’s, formerly St. Matthew’s House, and the 412 Barton Project.
