Growing up, Lance Stakwahereshi would play his uncle’s old, beaten up acoustic guitar, searching on a too-slow internet connection to find tabs and chords to learn. The indie/alternative-folk songwriter never imagined he would perform because of his crippling anxiety. “I think at the beginning, this feeling of anxiousness was rooted in what people thought of me or that I wasn’t good enough,” said Stakwahereshi, who grew up on the Six Nations of the Grand River.

Starting Tuesday, Farm Crawl Hamilton is offering tickets at a discounted price for the three-date event that allows attendees to tour local farms, meet farm animals and buy products from the farmers. Early-bird tickets are $17.50 ($2.50 off) for adults or $35 ($5 off) for a family pass for the June 21 date, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event also runs on July 19 and Sept. 13. June includes farms such as Angora Springs, Heart’s Content Organic Farmstead and Lotsa Hostas.

Verica Grgic rented out her east Hamilton home in late in 2023. That’s when her nightmare began. “Every penny, I invested in this (house) myself,” Grgic said tearfully as she stood outside the McQuesten neighbourhood bungalow. The home was recently vacated after a year-long battle to evict a tenant who, according to Grgic, failed to pay more than $24,000 in outstanding rent and trashed the home. Even empty, it stinks of the dog feces and urine that seeped in to the floorboards.
