Streptococcus agalactiae also known as group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a pathogen of humans and cattle in which it is responsible for carriage or invasive disease and subclinical mastitis respectively. AbstractStreptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) is a major pathogen of humans and animals, posing a threat to human health as well as food security. Here, we investigate the role of genomic mechanisms, including homologous recombination and horizontal gene transfer, in shaping the population structure of GBS and its adaptation to three major host groups (humans, cattle, fishes).
