A Cork woman has shared the journey of how she achieved her dream of becoming a pilot and the first Irish woman to compete at the World Advanced Aerobatic Championships despite encountering major hurdles. Ever since she took to the skies, Laura Russell from Monkstown was hooked. Today, she works as an Aer Lingus pilot and has been competing in national aerobatics competitions for well over a decade. Back in 2004, when Laura was 18, she took her very first flying lesson at Cork Airport.

This comes after a new recall from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, warning of possible bacterial risks in batches of salad dressings. Nine people, including a two-year-old child and a crew member, sustained injuries after their Ryanair flight was forced to make an emergency landing due to severe weather conditions. The incident left flyers in shock as the pilot announced he was aborting the flight, diverting the aircraft to the nearest airport. One passenger described the scenes as "chaotic and dangerous". The plane had 185 people on board when it was hit by extreme turbulence while travelling over Southern Germany.

Someone in Cork is now€500,000 richer after scooping the star prize in the monthly bond draw. Ireland State Savings, which runs the draws, confirmed today that this month's top prize goes to Prize Bond number WQ533371 held in County Cork. The lucky bond was purchased back in 2014. The astonishing sum is one of nearly 9,000 prizes awarded this week as the Prize Bond Draw dished out over €1,239,475 in winnings. The weekly prize of €50,000 goes to Prize Bond number AQQ328998 held in County Laois.
