Net zero is happening, and it is vital that the industry prepares accordingly. In 2040, sales of all new diesel HGVs will stop - that’s less than 16 short years away. Yet, there is so much to be done by Government and industry if that date is to be met. Recently, I visited Welch's in Cambridgeshire who say that the biggest issue for them to decarbonise is the lack of energy infrastructure to charge electric HGVs off-site.

The RHA is calling on the next government to invest in public infrastructure for electric lorries. Chris Ashley, RHA Policy Lead for Environment and Vehicles, said the industry needs more roadside charging points to help drive and support the adoption of electric trucks. "On average, a good range for a diesel truck would be 600 miles, with caveats of course. That is why a public charging network is necessary,” he told The Guardian.
