Sydney Airport is embarking on the biggest overhaul to its T2 Domestic hub in more than 30 years, with a reworked layout, streamlined check-in and upgraded security expected to take passengers from kerb to airside in ‘less than 15 minutes’. Earmarked for completion in late 2026, the staged project represents a $200 million investment in the terminal, which has long frustrated travellers with snaking check-in queues and extended wait times at security.

Tropical North Queenslanders will soon be able to swap one tropical paradise for another as Fiji Airways lifts off direct flights between Cairns and Nadi on April 10, 2025. The new thrice-weekly connection will jet off from Cairns shortly after midday every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, landing in Fiji’s balmy capital around 4 hours and 30 minutes later. On the return, the 8:30am departure will have travellers landing in Cairns just under five hours later those same three days.

Virgin Atlantic is the latest carrier flagging the rollout of a ‘green tax’ on airfares, with the environmental levy – a response to the rising costs of alternative fuels – expected to come into effect over the next 18 months. It follows Lufthansa, Swiss and other members of Lufthansa Group, which recently added a passenger surcharge of up to €72 (AU$115) across all flights from the European Union, the UK, Norway and Switzerland from January 1, 2025.
