I wrote about Alliance Aviation Services (AQZ) back in May 2023. Since then, almost every metric has improved except the share price. The price has gone from $3.15 to $2.83 a fall of 10%. Given it pays no dividends, that is a pretty disappointing return, especially when compared to the market return of above 16% for the same period. The US Equity market has had a great run over recent years. The S&P 500 Index, which tracks the performance of the 500 largest companies listed in the US, has returned 50% over a two-year period. A lot of this stellar performance came from a handful of large technology companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and Nvidia. Part of the reason these few mega-cap companies performed so well was their ability to benefit from higher interest rates.

Towards the end of 2022, the analyst community were predicting that the 2023 financial year would mark the end of the revenue growth streak for JB Hi-Fi (JBH). Similar predictions had been made in the past and the analysts proven wrong. They were wrong again this time. How analysts got it wrong about JB Hi-FiRevenue increased in FY23 by 4% to mark the 22nd year in a row of increasing revenue. However the streak finally came to an end in FY24 with a small decline of 0.4%.

Amotiv (ASX:AOV) listed on the ASX in 1962. Until recently, the business never really fit neatly into a classification as it has undergone multiple transformations throughout its life. In 2010, 44% of operating income came from the consumer products division. This included the electrical appliances brand Sunbeam and Oates cleaning products. 28% of operating income was from the automotive division and 25% from Davey Water Products. The remainder was from the security division.
