Sonora High School showed up in spades at Saturday’s Old Mill Run. Wildcat track star Broen Holman, 19, not only won the 44th Old Mill, but broke his own course record (32:41, 2023) by nearly a minute with a blistering 31:47. Not only that, but his Sonora High teammate, freshman Landon Wilson, 13, was runner-up with a time of 35:08. And Wildcat Demiree Dean, 16, won the women’s division in 44:05.

The final countdown has begun. The 44th Old Mill Run is less than a day away: Perfect running weather, a turnout of better than 100 and a wide array of races and festivities are all on the Columbia State Park race’s agenda. Starting gun for the signature 10K race will sound at 9 a.m. Saturday on Main Street, right in front of Nelson’s Candy Kitchen. Clear skies and runner-perfect temperatures in the low- to mid-60s are expected. “Why participate in the Old Mill?” asks Race Director Dave Urquhart.

If there were such a thing as an Old Mill Run Hall of Fame, Ken Danz would likely be its very first inductee. Not only has the former Sonora High and college track star run in most of the of the more than 40 Old Mills since the 10K race’s 1978 premiere, but he has collected more hardware than any runner in the race’s long history.
