    It’s time. After months of being on the campaign trail, Walton County candidates will turn it over to the voters as primary day arrives on Tuesday. Advance voting ended Friday after almost three full weeks. As of May 16, 4,347 voters had taken advantage of the early voting window. Another 354 absentee ballots had been received back in the Walton County Elections office. Polls will be open across Walton County from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday as several key races will be on the primary ballot.

    Walton County voters will get a chance to hear all candidates in contested primary races on Thursday. A political candidate forum, hosted by the Walton County Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Walton Historic Courthouse, located at 111 S Broad Street in Monroe.

    A weekend shooting on Chicadee Drive left one person dead, officials with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. The WCSO advised after the shooting there was no active threat to the community and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations has been called in to assist in the investigation. No arrests have been made. The shooting remained an active investigation early this week.
