Pitt (7-3) snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a 24-20 loss to No. 17 Clemson (8-2) on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. Even outside of the late touchdown allowed in the final two minutes by Pitt's defense, there were plenty of mistakes that ruined great chances for Pitt to score an upset over the Tigers. But a lack of discipline in key moments cost Pat Narduzzi a chance to improve his record to 3-2 over Dabo Swinney since he became Pitt's head coach in 2015.

Pitt's offense under new offensive coordinator Kade Bell has hit a drastic turn from its early success in the 2024 season. Through the Panthers' first five games, Pitt's 1,617 net passing yards were 11th-most in the country and its 17 passing touchdowns ranked second-most, only behind Miami's 21. But in Pitt's four games since then, the Panthers' gained just 738 net passing yards. That has been the 85th-most in the country and their five passing touchdowns are tied for 86th-most in the country.

Pitt's receivers know they have to make adjustments against how opposing defenses are trying to limit its passing attack - especially after the Panthers' first loss of the season, 48-25, against SMU. The Panthers' passing attack had averaged 340.4 yards per game over its first five contests, with 17 touchdowns scored through the air. But over its past three games against California, Syracuse and SMU, Pitt has averaged just 209 passing yards per game and scored only four touchdowns through the air.
