Digital platforms are now driving nearly half of all music publisher revenues across key markets, with streaming services and other digital platforms fuelling growth in the song rights business. That’s according to a new study that puts the spotlight on sixteen major markets, where publishers and writers together generate more than $11 billion in annual revenues. In those sixteen markets combined, digital accounts for 47.1% of publisher income.

The operator of popular stream-ripping service Yout faces up to four years in a Brazilian prison after a judge refused to dismiss criminal copyright charges against him, setting up a high-stakes August hearing. The music industry will be following the case closely to see if the criminal charges stick, given most stream-ripping cases to date have been civil lawsuits filed by copyright owners.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Many people of different faiths came together in Greenville today to celebrate the start of Pride Month and address challenges they say the LGBTQ+ community is facing. The “Begin With Blessing” service brought together people, including those who identify as Jewish, Christian, Catholic, and even some who don’t identify with any faith. They say the message is stronger when people of so many different backgrounds unite.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Appointment-free Saturday walk-in hours have begun at multiple DMV offices in Eastern Carolina. We reported on May 28th that three DMV offices in the east were adding new Saturday hours. Those include Pitt County, Jacksonville, and Elizabeth City. It’s part of an expansion as the number of DMV offices offering these hours in the state now rises from 16 to 20 locations.

PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WITN) - A ceremony and ribbon cutting were held in Plymouth to remember the black soldiers who fought during the Civil War. On display at the memorial is a photo that was taken in 1905 as the 35th United States Colored Troops came together in Plymouth to remember what they did for their country. Those who retell stories of their bravery say the 35th holds a special place in history.
