MARION, Ind. — Marion Police had the duty this week of arresting a fellow cop. Russell Rodriguez, who is a Grant County Detention deputy, has been charged with domestic battery. Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday. Though neither the sheriff’s department nor the Marion Police Dept. made it clear exactl;y what went on to warrant the charges, in a Friday news release, the Grant County Sheriff’s Dept. said Rodriguez had been placed on administrative leave.

WASHINGTON–Some of the deepest cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, or “food stamps” as it is known colloquially, have been proposed by the House. The U.S. Senate also plans deep cuts to their program in their version of the budget bill. Both versions are drawing criticism from Republican and Democrat lawmakers. Indiana’s Frank Mrvan, a Democrat who represents the northwest part of the state, is one of those not only criticising the cuts, but asking for reconsideration.

GREENFIELD, Ind.–A man who admitted to police that he wanted “experiment with children” has been convicted of molesting several children after a four-day trial in Hancock County. Jericho Johnson worked with both the YMCA and Shining Stars Academy until he was found out last year. Johnson’s conviction comes after a child at Shining Stars reported him and ten more children subsequently coming forward to say that Johnson had also molested them.

EVANSVILLE, Ind.–Sometimes it seems like errant police officers get more attention than ones who do a good job. But, an officer in Evansville is being recognized for his calm, clear and collected actions early Monday that may have helped save a man’s life. The officer, identified as Officer Staats, in a news released, arrived at a home where someone had called 911 for a man not breathing.
