A woman who was forced to flee her homeland to escape the Taliban has shared her story of heartbreak and defiance. Life changed overnight for Shaqayeq Nejah when the Taliban took hold of Afghanistan in 2021. With her right to education removed, she quickly fled the country, leaving behind friends and loved ones. Now studying at UHI Moray, Shaqayeq was named Student of the Year and is flourishing.

As an Englishman who’s called Moray home for the past seven years, there’s little I miss about the old country — except a good, rustic pub.
