The Cannoneers experienced a rough day in an 18-8 loss to Herkimer College on Wednesday in Region 3 play on JCC’s multi-purpose turf field. But despite the outcome and the weather, as snow flurries turned into a cold rain with temperatures dipping into the mid-30s, optimism and camaraderie continues to grow in the JCC program.

After the final buzzer sounded Friday night, the Red Knights stormed the court, mobbing each other in celebration before quickly sitting down for a quick picture. LaFargeville had endured the toughest game of its season and prevailed to claim the school’s first state championship.

SYRACUSE — By enduring the latest encounter between two Frontier League foes, the LaFargeville girls basketball team continues to make school history. Led by sisters Emeline and Margie Barton and backed once again by relentless defense, the Red Knights defeated Sackets Harbor, 54-35, on Sunday to win the Section 3 Class D title at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena. With the triumph, LaFargeville repeated as champion a year after capturing its first sectional championship in the sport.
