    Germany has already made it known that it believes the EU-backed IRIS2 mega-constellation of super-secure satellites is too expensive. Now it seems that Italy is also having thoughts about its own satellite fleet. A report in German newspaper Handelsblatt suggests that the German army (Bundeswehr) is backing an alternate orbiting satellite system, and may not be at all keen on IRIS2.

    The Baikonur rocket and missile site in the middle of Kazakhstan is an area of some 90 kms in diameter which is leased to Russia until 2050. At its heart is the spaceport, and central to the spaceport’s modest visitors area is a small museum where the world’s first astronaut Yuri Gagarin lived ahead of his launch into orbit on a Vostok rocket on 12 April1961. The museum and its associated exterior special exhibits is to be created into a museum complex.

    April 16, 2025 By Chris Forrester ]LG’s Display division says it has completed the sale of its last remaining LCD factory. China’s consumer electronic giant TCL Technology Group was the buyer. The sale marks the end of LCD TV panel manufacturing for the South Korean company. LG Display’s final LCD TV panel factory in Guangzhou, China, was sold to TCL CSOT for around 10.8 billion yuan (€1.29bn), according to an announcement from TCL. The deal was first announced in September 2024.

    April 16, 2025 By Chris Forrester A carriage agreement between South Africa’s public broadcaster SABC and pay-TV operator MultiChoice struck in 2013 and which saw MultiChoice carry SABC’s channels on its system has emerged from a legal problem. South Africa’s Competition Tribunal on April 14th said it had dismissed an “exception application” brought by MultiChoice over a channel-supply agreement with the SABC, which it signed during the Jacob Zuma presidency 12 years ago.

The anxiety of travelling on a plane with an autistic child is bad enough, the last thing you need as a parent is to have a flight attendant do something like this. For someone in that position to just be so rude is a disgrace. Appalling service. @AerLingus
