There is something called Betteridge’s rule of headlines, coined by technology journalist Ian Betteridge in 2009 (but recognised for much longer), that states that any journalistic headline posed as a question can be answered ‘no’. The thinking goes that if men were definitely, undoubtedly wearing smaller watches, we as journalists would confidently assert that they were, rather than asking.

So even though she was walking into the field in 2020 just as so many experienced nurses were walking out of it, Matyac stayed. It helped that her first year in the workforce was spent in a new graduate residency program, designed to flatten the daunting learning curve. She worked closely with designated, more experienced nurses on her floor, who supervised her learning and gradually introduced her to more complicated cases as her skills and confidence grew.

Of all the cities in the world in which you might expect a legendary carmaker such as Porsche to debut its latest project, perhaps the least likely would be Venice, most famous for its comparative lack of roads. Things begin to make a bit more sense, however, when you understand that the project in question is an installation created in partnership with the Norman Foster Foundation, appearing in Venice for the Biennale — the world-renowned exhibition of architecture which opened on May 10.
