The death of one man and close calls by others have emergency services and safety advocates once again warning winter enthusiasts to take precautions around ice. A man in his 70s died on Thursday night after he fell through Lake Ontario ice near Toronto while skating. The following afternoon, two people fell through thin ice on Lake Scugog, but managed to get themselves to safety.

A vehicle was “deliberately” driven into a Mississauga business on Monday afternoon in an effort to carry out a robbery, said Peel police. Just before 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, police say officers were called to investigate a collision after a vehicle struck a retail outlet in the area of Eglinton Avenue west and Confederation Parkway. “Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was deliberately driven into the premise to commit a robbery,” said Peel police.
