A popular east Auckland pedestrian walkway is at threat of being cut off should the large amount of dirt and greenery above it suddenly move south. Bucklands Beach resident Catherine McInally has contacted the Howick Local Board and Pakuranga MP Simeon Brown’s office to ask for action to be taken to protect the Half Moon Bay Walkway from landslides due to erosion. The walkaway is adjacent to the boatyard at Half Moon Bay Marina and is used by people to get between the marina and Bucklands Beach.

Whitford’s Quay Gallery is hosting an exhibition of paintings by self-taught fine artist Andreea Ionela Berindei. Originally from Romania, she now lives in New Zealand after previously establishing her practice in Southern California in the United States. Berindei has gained international recognition for her stunningly realistic acrylic paintings of ocean scenes and waterscapes.

Two east Auckland school pupils with big ambitions are among the Kiwis selected to take part in the 2025 Youth Parliament. Pakuranga College head student Abby Plom, 17, has been chosen as Prime Minister and Botany MP Christopher Luxon’s Youth MP, while Abby’s schoolmate Cerys Gibby, who’s 17 also, will be one of 20 reporters in the Youth Press Gallery. Both girls are in year 13.

But that’s exactly what recently happened to Willowbank School principal Adéle Jacobs and her senior leadership team in front of their pupils and teachers as part of the Dannemora school’s fundraising efforts, which included a spectacular colour fun run.

The devoted members of an east Auckland fitness centre are rejoicing at the news the Howick Local Board has voted to extend its property lease for three more years. The issue of whether to extend Auckland Council’s lease of Marina Fitness, located at Half Moon Bay Marina, came before the board at its most recent business meeting. Marina Fitness is the only pool and leisure facility in the council’s network where the council does not own the building.
