The Chicago Tribune, the hometown newspaper of Oprah Winfrey, has criticized her for allowing her company to accept a $1 million payment from the Kamala Harris presidential campaign. The Washington Examiner reported earlier this month how Harris’s campaign had blown through a $1 billion budget. Among its expenses were two payments of $500,000 each to Harpo Productions, dated Oct. 15, 2024, per Federal Election Commission filings. Winfrey is the chairwoman and CEO of the company.

Two of the Washington Examiner’s reporters, Anna Giaritelli and Gabe Kaminsky, have been nominated as finalists for the National Journalism Center’s Dao Prize for Excellence in investigative journalism. Giaritelli, who interned with the Washington Examiner in 2010, joined the company full-time in 2015 and has been covering immigration, the border, and homeland security since 2018. She has visited the border some 60 times during her tenure.
FBI identifies Trump shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks

The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, as the shooter in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was killed by security moments after he was able to fire off several shots at the Trump rally in Butler. Extraordinary footage obtained by TMZ appears to show Butler lying on his belly and firing shots before being taken out. Similar, footage is circulating of the moment a Secret Service sniper reacted to the shots and returned fire.
