San Diego home prices rose just over 1% in March, the third positive month after a half-year downward trend, according to the authoritative Case-Shiller Index released Tuesday. Prices rose 1.05%, compared to 1.12% in Feburary and 0.11% in January after declining throughout the second half of 2024. Nationwide prices were up 0.76% in March, with Seattle and Los Angeles showing the strongest growth on the West Coast at 1.78% and 1.48%, respectively.

The Jewish Community Foundation San Diego and the Leichtag Foundation in North County have announced plans to merge their operations effective this summer to “expand capacity, expertise, and strategic relationships.”The JCF was San Diego’s first community foundation, and has granted $2.2 billion since it’s inception in 1967. Leichtag, which dates to 1991, has granted nearly $150 million and developed the historic Ecke Ranch as a Jewish community hub in North County.

A sonic boom shook parts of Southern California on Saturday night as an unmanned SpaceX Dragon capsule reentered Earth’s atmosphere and landed in the ocean off Oceanside. The spacecraft was returning from a mission to resupply the International Space Station. It launched from Florida on April 21 carrying 6,700 pounds of supplies and spent 32 days docked at the station.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Office announced plans for a DUI and license checkpoint somewhere within the city limits of Poway on Friday night. Deputies will be stopping vehicles from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday to check for alcohol, marijuana or drug impairment as well as proper licensing. Checkpoints are regularly announced in advance because of the deterrent effect on people who might drink or smoke to excess and then get behind the wheel.
