Overall Trump’s speech has a nice narrative arc and the personal stories will make it hard for critics to penetrate. Trump definitely needed that win amid his troubles on Ukraine and the fallout of his tariffs.

Trump leaning into the personal stories is his really the strength of his speech. Who couldn’t love that kid and his look when he was deputized as a Secret Service agent?

Trump’s speech is very backwards looking for so far as itemizes accomplishments of his first weeks. Not anything wrong with that, but I usually expect addresses to joint sessions of Congress to look to the future and call for action.
