The head of European rugby has dismissed concerns over Saracens resting a host of England stars for their Champions Cup last-16 tie at Toulon. But European Professional Club Rugby chief executive Jacques Raynaud insists the Champions Cup remains the pinnacle for players and coaches. "We do have one or two cases per season [of weakened teams], but it is more the exception, we shouldn't overplay it," Raynaud told BBC Sport.

The chief executive of the Rugby Football Union, Bill Sweeney, has survived a vote of no-confidence at a special general meeting. 65% voted against the motion, which had called for the RFU board to terminate Sweeney's appointment. "I am pleased to see such a decisive outcome," said interim chairman Sir Bill Beaumont. "I trust those who supported the motion will honour and respect the result. Let's pull together."

Lions boss Andy Farrell has recruited the former England scrum-half, 41, as part of an Ireland-influenced coaching group. Ireland interim head coach Simon Easterby is also expected to join Farrell's team, while the Ireland attack coach Andrew Goodman and scrum specialist John Fogarty are under consideration.
