On my way to an assignment on Halloween, how fitting that I pass a field of pumpkins. I had been searching for this exact photo for a couple years and just looking for the right background and light. To me, this picture epitomizes fall in Lancaster County. THE METHOD: Nikon D6 with a Nikkor VR 80-400 mm f-4.5-5.6G; 1/2500 sec.; f-5.6; ISO 320; Aperture priority; Pattern metering. Mount Joy closed Main Street to traffic in the center of town Saturday, Dec. 7 2024, for its 26th annual Winterfest. Retail shops remained open, and event attendees also could peruse offerings at holiday markets featuring goods from local artisans. Adding to the festivities were live music performances, a food court and a visit from Santa. Support local journalism.

It’s always a pleasure when I find inspiration in my backyard, as I did during our wet spell at the end of September. Although no spider was found, I thought it was interesting the way the water sticks to the web. A water drop is comprised of water molecules that like to stick together — an example of the property of cohesion. In the picture of a spider web, the water droplets are stuck to the web — an example of the property of adhesion.
