Assumed audience: People interested in how we can make good software. In more than one sense of the phrase “good software”. That means not just software engineers. A bit of context: Today I gave the second of two talks at LambdaConf 2024: exploring what we can do to make our software better… and also what to do to make better software. As the title might suggest, it explicitly draws on James C.

According to the , about one in five Americans deals with some kind of mental illness, and about one in 20 Americans has a mental illness so severe that it seriously affects their lives. What Christians ought to make of this and how we ought to respond to the idea of “mental illness” in the first place have both been open points of debate for decades.

I was on The Changelog to talk semantic versioning, types, Rust, TypeScript, the future of versioning, and more!Back at the start of May, I spoke on The Cutting Edge of Versioning at LambdaConf. After the video came out, Rust SemVer nerd/wizard Predrag Gruevski (whom I cited very approvingly in the talk!) watched it and then we got on a call to talk our shared passion (geeky in the extreme, in the best way!) for versioning and how it can help software developers.

(this post): for those curious about where I am heading next… including folks who might want to hire me. Now: Sabbatical: for those interested in how I am spending this sabbatical. Past: Leaving LinkedIn: for those interested in why I am on this new path. I love building software.

Assumed audience: People who have worked with Git or other modern version control systems like Mercurial, Darcs, Pijul, Bazaar, etc., and have at least a basic idea of how they work. Jujutsu is a new version control system from a software engineer at Google, where it is on track to replace Google’s existing with Perforce, Piper, and Mercurial. I find it interesting both for the approach it takes and for its careful design choices in terms of both implementation details and user interface.
