    It touched me to hear that at 48, the TV presenter Ant McPartlin is a new father. His wife, Anne-Marie Corbett, who has two daughters from a previous marriage, gave birth to their son, Wilder Patrick, last week. Sharing a poignant image of them both, he welcomed his son to the family, posting: “Baby is beautiful, Mummy’s a legend, Sisters are over the moon. Dad’s a mess!” I’d venture to say I know something of how he feels.

    It may be August and supposedly high summer, but on a day when the weather took a soggy turn for January, no amount of rain could spoil the parade as Lydd Town made FA Cup history. The ‘Lydders’ may have lost their first league match after winning promotion in last season’s play-offs but made history last Saturday when beating Camberley Town 1-0 in their first ever appearance in the Emirates FA Cup.

    Rother District Council has announced the appointment of a new chief executive. Lorna Ford joined the council in January 2022 as deputy chief executive, before stepping up to interim chief executive following the retirement of Malcolm Johnston in May this year.     Traction steam engines, vintage cars, motorcycles, and a myriad of agricultural machines from past and present take centre stage at the ever-popular Weald of Kent Steam Rally which takes place this weekend, August 5-6, at Little Engeham Farm, Woodchurch. Preceding the rally, a number of traction engines, tractors and vintage vehicles will take part in a road-run around the local lanes to promote the event.
