College football fans are vital to a game's atmosphere and essential to home-field advantage. In short, on game day, we want soaring noise levels. We want big-time decibels. We crave crowd noise. Fans take pride in unusual things in the world of college football, and that almost certainly includes wanting to be included in a list of the loudest college football stadiums. As a result, a college football game has an atmosphere and a noise level you don't tend to find at the NFL level.

In a way, every sporting event tells a story. However, most of us are ultimately more interested in watching athletes in action trying to win while doing cool stuff than reading about it.

Stan Mikita couldn’t do it. Neither could Luc Robitaille. Patrick Kane and Steven Stamkos, future Hall of Famers both, are hoping to make it happen. What are we talking about? Tallying at least 60 postseason goals as an NHL player. There are 35 players who have done it, and a few on the horizon who should do it soon. Interestingly, they aren’t all Hall of Famers, and not just the active guys.

If you are a football fan of a certain age, you know Manchester City as one of the biggest, most-successful clubs in the world. If you are just a bit older, you remember before that, when they were consistently a mid-table club. And hey, if you are a bit older still, you remember when Man City was relegation fodder. Over in the States, if somebody wants to try and create a comparison point to understand English football, often you will hear that Manchester United is the New York Yankees of English football. To which a United fan might say that the Yankees are the Man U of American baseball. Arguably, no club in England has the prestige, the cache, as you find on the red side of Manchester. Thus, to be captain of Manchester United is a significant accomplishment.

It’s great to be a great footballer. It’s also quite nice to be a high-quality football manager. Some have excelled at both, though that is not a given. Being a top player does not necessarily mean you will be a good manager. Don’t believe us? All we’ll say is: Steve Gerrard and Frank Lampard. Then, there are people who barely made a blip on the pitch but have gone on to great success managing. How did all 20 current Premier League managers get to the point of being, well, manager?

Recently, I was watching hockey on ESPN, and during the intermission they had a segment to celebrate the anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice” USA Olympic hockey team winning gold. This was already odd, given that it was the 44th anniversary, not exactly a remarkable year to celebrate. Not only that, but Mark Messier and P.K. Subban were asked for their thoughts on Team USA winning gold, and beating the Soviet Union team en route to winning said gold. They are both Canadian.
