MAN Truck & Bus UK has appointed Tracey Perry as Sales Director of Truck, Bus & Coach. Tracey succeeds Matt Squires who starts a new position as the Operations Director for MAN Truck & Bus in Hong Kong. Taking over from Tracey’s previous role of Sales Director Van is Toni Ward. Stefan Thyssen, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus UK, said: “We are delighted to have appointed Tracey to lead the MAN Truck & Bus UK Truck, Bus and Coach sales teams.
Heyfordian ceases to trade

Bicester-based Heyfordian Travel is ceasing operations. The operation comes to an end after 76 years. Established in 1947, Heyfordian Travel is a family owned and managed business, with Jeremy and Roland Smith listed as Directors. Its transport roots reach back to the 1890s when a branch of the family were the horse-drawn carriers in the village of Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire from where the name Heyfordian originates. After WWI, the business acquired its first mechanised trucks.

Move comes as business changes structure for future growth Tom Stables, CEO of National Express UK, is departing the company. Additionally, David Bradford, Managing Director at National Express Bus is also leaving the business. The departures are confirmed by a spokesperson for National Express, who said: “We are making some limited changes to our structure to ensure we are as efficient as we can be and to enable us to grow in the future.
New coaches for new era at Newport

Newport Transport has taken delivery of the first new coaches to launch its new express coach venture in partnership with FlixBus on 7 August. The new Volvo 9700s have been branded for FlixBus. Newport Transport will operate the Flixbus services from South Wales to London Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Newport Transport says the addition of the new coaches and the operation of an intercity express service route signal the start of a new era for the operator.
Revenue strong at Mobico, but profit down

Mobico Group, the new name for National Express Group, has reported strong revenue in its financial report for the six months ended 30 June 2023. Group revenue rose 18.5% to £1.57bn during the period (H1 2022: £1.32bn). Despite this, group operating profit is down to £8.7m (H1 2022: £42.3m), which it says is as a result of the reduction in Covid-19 funding from the government.

RHA targets education sector and government in skills push

Trade body RHA is targeting the education sector and the government in its skills manifesto. The organisation says the transport industry faces skills shortages, including drivers, technicians and warehouse operatives. It acknowledges the steps government has taken to address the issues but says more needs to be done. In its skills manifesto, the RHA encourages industry, the education sector and government to work together to make commercial road transport and logistics attractive career options.
MP thanks Nottingham drivers

The Nottingham South MP presented bus drivers from Nottingham City Transport (NCT), trentbarton and Kinchbus with a thank-you card from bus passengers across the country at NCT’s Lower Parliament Street depot.
Rotala profit up

Rotala reports a profit increase for the six months ended 31 May 2023. Its profit before tax and exceptional items during the period was at £865,000 (H1 2022: £4,000). During the six months, Rotala saw passenger numbers remain at 90%-95% of pre-Covid levels, slightly higher than national levels. The company’s Board believes this outperformance can be ascribed to small gains in its market share, rather than differences in the company’s markets compared to the national UK bus market.
