With an independent spirit and a distinctive hand-drawn style, the American artist has reached legendary status since first arriving on the scene back in 1987. His shorts and features have earned him numerous awards and recognition around the world. Now, there is a rare opportunity to see some of his work on the big screen in a double-bill presentation at the Metrograph in New York City on Sunday, June 1.

Originally an American Football player, he broke through with the crowd-funded short Hair Love, which went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Short. He went on to write Hair Love the book, which went on to become a New York Times best-seller, and created the animated series Young Love for HBO Max.

It's been a long wait for a sequel to Zootopia. It's been just shy of a decade, in fact. This year we're finally getting Zootopia 2 - also known as Zootropolis 2 in the United Kingdom and other countries.What's taken so long? Well, we'd like to think they waited until the right story came along, rather than rushed out a sequel to the billion-dollar original. We'll find out if it paid off later this year. Walt Disney Animation Studios has debuted the first teaser for the sequel this week.

Predator is one of the biggest franchises in sci-fi. First appearing in 1987, and featuring one of the most iconic alien designs in the galaxy, it went on to spawn four sequels, two cross-overs with the Alien franchise, numerous comic books, novels and video games. Now it's about to get its first ever animated iteration in the form of anthology Predator: Killer Of Killers. The most recent outing in the franchise was 2022's Prey, a prequel directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

It's been a busy spring for independent animator and filmmaker Tess Martin. The American born, Netherlands based artist has two films doing the rounds of festivals- How Now, House? and Where We Are. The former received its world premiere at Athens International Film And Video Festival, and is gearing up for its UK/European premiere at Sheffield DocFest. A site-specific installation based on How Now House, is coming to Martin's adopted hometown of Rotterdam.

You may remember the first film ended with our troop of animal felons going straight. By the time the second movie rolls around they're still trying (very hard) to be good. Gone are the days when animation came mainly from just a few countries. These days, it's produced all over the world. One part of the world whose animation industry only continues to grow is South America- and in particular Brazil. Brazilian studio Pinguim Content, has just dropped the first trailer for their highly anticipated animated feature My Grand Father is a Nihonjin. The film was screened in an exclusive early showing at the Marché du Film, during the Cannes Film Festival 2025.

Fresh from the news that he's getting a third movie, it's been announced that Shaun The Sheep will be returning to the small screen as well. 2025 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the first appearance of Shaun in the Wallace and Gromit Oscar-winningshort A Close Shave, and Aardman and the BBC are celebrating with the launch of a new season of his TV series. The lovable stop-motion sheep starred in his own series which originally ran on CBBC from 2007- 2020.
