If you’ve been using Podman for your container deployments or development, you’re in for a treat. Red Hat recently launched version five of the Podman container management system, which has completely reworked the code for Podman’s virtual machine management tool (podman-machine). “Podman machine includes a set of subcommands that manage Podman’s virtual machine, which is necessary for users to be able to run Podman on MacOS or Windows,” the official release announcement.

Data integration provider Hasura has added a visual component to its data API platform, offering developers a handy visualization of the complex topologies that may be wrangling in their integration efforts. When fully released by the end of this month, Hasura v3 comes with a redesigned console featuring a graphical “supergraph” viewer, displaying, in a spider web-esque graph format, the tables of all the sources of data.

Those who have been in the field for a while might recall when data scientists began to participate in projects, raising questions about collaboration with application development teams. The development teams that were already established in their workflows used Git, had an elaborate CI/CD pipeline and could deploy to production at will. The Linux home directory (also known as / or ~/) is where all user data and settings are stored. By default, the home directory is located on the root partition of Linux — so, /home. All user directories will be subdirectories of that root directory. So, if you have a user “camille”, that directory would be /home/camille. In most situations, that’s fine. But there may be times when having home on the same drive as the operating system (and all of its many files and folders) isn’t exactly ideal.

We’ve always been rather conservative when viewing code, data and other software structures. We’ve used file browsers, sometimes with some type of preview modes. Then we pass on code or data to another application to look at it — and then, possibly use another application to work on it. The exploration of software has always been a bit clunky. As it is, we still use inspectors designed in the days when apps were expensive, and naturally, these became our workflow focus.
