Concept cars are the stuff of automotive dreams that get us petrolheads all excited. In the olden days, we grizzled veterans would look forward to the next motor show, or a sneak peek at some illicitly imported magazine that might reveal the latest design iteration from Ford, Lamborghini or even Ferrari. These days, you’ll see them popping up as instantaneous, influencer-orchestrated, perfection on Insta, garnering clicks and plaudits in equal measure.

Many of us can trace our passion for classics back to a certain point in time. Maybe it was a particular car or bike that sparked something deep within the soul, or perhaps there was one particular person that fuelled this love for all things internal combustion, like Bryan Wingfield did for his daughter Kate. “That’s not a classic” or the old favourite at a classic car show of “that’ll never be a classic”. Ugh, so annoying. Who sets these alleged parameters, who decides, WHO IS IN CHARGE? You, that’s who. The age of a classic car, the requirements, it doesn’t matter what anyone says, the answer is subjective. Yes, some outlets like some events and some insurance companies will bracket and quantify, but that’s their doing. There is no official body that says what a classic is.
