Sunshine is setting up a smooth getaway as many Minnesotans point their cars north for the long weekend. Roads should be dry this evening and overnight travel will be quiet under partly cloudy skies with temperatures slipping into the upper 40s. At the cabin on Saturday plan on a gentle breeze, a good dose of sun, and highs near 70. Lake water is still cold so an extra layer helps if you are out fishing early. Sunday warms a touch to the low 70s with light winds and only a few passing clouds.

After days of gray skies and steady rain, the sunshine made a welcome return today. It’s felt nice to finally dry out a bit after picking up nearly a month’s worth of rainfall in just a few days across much of southern Minnesota. Lawns are greener, gardens are growing, and spirits are up as we head into a much quieter and more seasonable stretch. Tonight will be partly cloudy and comfortable with lows in the mid 40s.

Good Wednesday evening to one and all! After a steady and soaking rain over the past two days, conditions will finally begin to dry out across southern Minnesota headed into Thursday. Along and south of I-94, rainfall totals have ranged from 2 to 4 inches. That’s been a welcome boost for lawns, gardens, and water levels in some of the drier parts of the state. Unfortunately, northern Minnesota was once again left mostly dry.

Today has been downright miserable across much of southern and central Minnesota. It’s been wet, cold, and windy with waves of rain falling steadily throughout the day. Many spots across the metro have already picked up more than two inches of rainfall, and although the heaviest rain is behind us, lighter showers will continue through much of Wednesday. This soaking rain has brought some much-needed moisture to parts of the state dealing with dry conditions. However, it’s a different story up north.

Showers and thunderstorms are already developing across western Minnesota this evening and will continue to spread eastward through the night. For many, this is shaping up to be a soaking and steady rainfall event that will last well into Tuesday. Rain will fall heavily at times overnight and into the Tuesday morning commute. If you’re heading out early, give yourself some extra time. Roads will be wet, visibility will be reduced, and standing water could slow things down further.
