A round of thunderstorms is expected to move through Minnesota late tonight and into early Friday morning, potentially impacting the morning commute with downpours and lightning. A few storms could be strong, so give yourself extra time if you’re heading out early. After the morning storms, Friday turns partly cloudy, very warm, and muggy, the prelude to a much more intense stretch of hot weather. Both Saturday and Sunday are Forecast First Alert days.

After a stretch of pop-up showers and muggy afternoons, attention now turns to another weather headline: our first true heat wave of the season. Scattered thunderstorms may pop up early this evening, followed by a quiet, partly cloudy night. A Forecast First Alert continues for Monday evening. Severe storms are possible, and they could have big hail, strong winds, and a few tornadoes. Severe weather remains a concern this evening across Minnesota. A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9 PM, including the Twin Cities metro, as scattered thunderstorms continue to move through the region. Some of these storms have the potential to bring damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes.

Spotty showers are still lingering across parts of Minnesota, wrapping up a soggy and unsettled stretch of weather that’s already dropped several inches of rainfall for many. Sunday brings more scattered storm chances, particularly in the morning and again later in the day.

Good Friday evening and happy weekend to one and all! Several rounds of thunderstorms have already dumped multiple inches of rain across Minnesota overnight and into Friday morning. This was merely the start of the impact from this soggy setup—and the pattern ahead doesn’t offer much relief. We remain locked in an active storm track, and each day through much of next week brings at least some chance for additional showers and thunderstorms.
