UFO stands for “unidentified flying object," and was recently rebranded to UAP, “unidentified aerial phenomenon,” or “unidentified anomalous phenomenon.” Apparently, UFO had some marketing problems. As proud Pacific Northwesterners know, the first official sighting of otherworldly aircraft didn’t happen at Roswell, New Mexico, but rather, near Mount Rainier on June 24, 1947, by 32-year-old rescue pilot Kenneth Arnold.

Finnish diplomat and statesman, Martti Ahtisaari (86), who died earlier this month, played a key role in the way in which Namibia became independent. He not only headed the United Nations Transitional Assistance Group (Untag) in 1989, which supervised the country's first democratic elections, but had a long involvement with the Namibian peace process before that. Finland had historic missionary ties with northern Namibia, and Ahtisaari's interest in Namibia was sparked when a student.

“The Mysteries” is a “fable for grown-ups” by Bill Watterson of “Calvin and Hobbes” renown and John Kascht, caricaturist of celebrities. Composed in black-and-white, it’s structured like a dream. None of the characters have names, the images combine impressionistic painting (Watterson’s work) with intricately layered 3D models and sculptures (Kascht’s), almost like looking inside a diorama.
