Both of our daughters are rebelling against eating their meals. At breakfast the other day, Riley, our 16 month old, begged to get out of her high chair even though she hadn’t eaten any of her sausage or waffle. Lucy, our 3 ½ year old, was picking slowly at her own waffle while watching the Muffin Babies on my iPad. (It’s the Muppet Babies, but she calls it the Muffin Babies, and it’s adorable so I’m not correcting her.)So anyway, I let Riley out of her chair and figured she’d just go play.

Dear Indy,You can watch a documentary that offers solutions to homelessness Aug. 20 at Butler University. Don Sawyer, who produced and directed “Beyond the Bridge: A Solution to Homelessness,” spoke with economics reporter Tyler Fenwick about the goals when creating the film. Sawyer visited 12 cities to see how they tackle the issue. Milwaukee and Houston in particular, he said, have tried to rebuild their support structures urgently.

Dear Indy,Eight-year-old Chelsea Yeakey loves to read, so much so that her mother signed her up for a summer book club at Frederick Douglass Park. But in this book club, the children like Chelsea are the authors. Tevin Studdard, a local musician and author, created Literacy Entrepreneurship and Dreams — called LEAD for short — to help children write and self-publish books from their ideas. Now, 80 children who participated in the program have books listed for sale on Amazon.

Dear Indy,The city kicked off its Road to Resources program Tuesday at Rhodius Park in West Indianapolis. The effort will offer resources from multiple agencies to improve safety and infrastructure in three neighborhoods chosen based on crime and infrastructure data. City officials hope the program will grow from there.
